Plastic - most commonly used
instead of glass because it is much lighter and does
not shatter as easily as glass.
Glass - rare these days but
provides good scratch resistance.
Polycarbonate - the latest
material, very tough (impact-resistant) and are 27%
lighter on average than standard lenses. Can
be tinted and have in-built UV protection.
Hi-index - are very much
thinner and look much better for nearly all spectacle
prescriptions especially for stronger
prescriptions.
Phorochromic/Transition lenses -
these lenses darken when exposed to UV and
lighten when worn indoors.
Anti-Reflective or Multicoat -
a superior coating to all others for it provides the
best light transmission, minimal reflections and even
includes anti-scratch coating.
Anti-Scratch - makes normal
plastic lenses more scratch resistant, especially with
normal daily use.
UV Protection - comes standard
in many of our lenses. UV rays can cause irreversible
damage to the exposed surfaces of your eye.
